Glorious History
Initially, it was named Kola Union High English School. On April 23, 1923, the school was inaugurated by Mr. Cook (Inspector of Burdwan Division). After getting the approval of Calcutta University in 1926, the first matriculation examination was given in 1927 by Shital Prasad Chakraborty, Manmathanath Mandal and Surendranath Maiti. Initially, there was a hostel for 10-12 students. The superintendent was the teacher Nandalal Mukherjee. The first special grant-in-aid of 500 rupees was received from the Inspector of Burdwan Division. After that, 91 decimal land was purchased for 640 rupees. On September 21, 1932, the students joined the strike against the then British government. The first president of the school was the Sub-divisional Administrator, Tamluk; vice-president was Krittivas Maji; secretary was Manmathanath Bose; headmaster was Surendranath Das; The assistant teacher was Nimai Maiti and the education worker was Satyacharan Panja. The school started with 7 assistant teachers including the headmaster.


Deficit grant was started in 1948 and Shahid Vedi was established in the school on 16th August 1949. The next year i.e. in 1950, co-education was started and in 1955 the school’s own ‘logo’ was started. In 1957, education up to class XII was started. That year, first the Arts department was started and later in 1959 the Commerce department and in 1960 the Science department. The school flag was made in 1972. When the Higher Secondary education program started in 1976, the school became known as a Higher Secondary School. The first educational tour was conducted under the management of the school in 1988. Sunil Chandra Dua Mahasoy served as the headmaster of the school for the longest time. In the 1989-90 academic year, a specific dress was introduced for the students of the school. From the 2021 academic year, English medium has been introduced alongwith Bengali medium, approved by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
The school, which started in 1923, has crossed the golden jubilee (1972), diamond jubilee (1983), platinum jubilee (1997) and observed the centenary in the year 1922 with Gratitude, respect and honor to all the individuals and organizations who have directly and indirectly extended a helping hand along this journey.
