Kola Union High School was started on 23rd April, 1923. The day is an auspicious day marked the beginning of a long journey of Kola Union High School. This premiere institution was set up under village kola which is now well known to all of us as "Kolaghat". Once reputed as a center of trading, this Kola village had several "Ghats" on the bank of the Rupnarayan for the convenience of passenger and goods transport.Later the name "Kola" added with "ghat" made the place renowned as "Kolaghat". In spite of the location being Kolaghat(today) the institution got its name as "Kola Union High School".
We can remember such great persons who initiated for starting a school for local children. They are Kritwibas Mazi(Denan), Gopal Doloi (Babua), Jaharuddin Mallick (Barisha), Mohd. Khandakar (Denan), Bibhuti Chakraborty (Kola), Kaliprasad Mukherjee (Barisha), Sharat Chandra Pal, Barada Chakraborty, Fakir Manna ( Kukhabar), Jatindranath Ghosh, Netai Dutta, Naren Daw ( Barbarisha), Jadu Dolui, Sarada Dolui, Debandranath Maji, Swarup Samanta (Babua) and other dignitaries whom we memorize the then S.D.O. Tamluk, without whose active co-operation our dream.
We believe that children blossom in an environment free of unhealthy fear that each child will blossom but at different times; so we have to give each one the time that reward rather than punishment facilitates learning that teaching is never complete till learning is complete.

This school was established on 23rd April 1923 by the divisional magistrate of Burdwan Mr. Cook. Its gate is open to all for imparting lessons. Teaching learning in class XII started in 1957 and the school got affiliation West Bengal Higher Secondary Council in 1976. Since then the school has been imparting education for the boys from class V to X and Co-education in Higher Secondary level consisting of Arts, Science and Commerce successfully with the co-operation and patronage of local people and earnest efforts of the teaching and non-teaching staff. Till the date our school as a premier and prestigious Institution of the district has been active in teaching and learning with good reputation for so many years. Today many students of our schools became established in our country and abroad. One of them is the world famous Scientist Dr Manilal Bhowmick, a quantum Physicist and the father of excimer laser. Besides there are successful Swimmer Sanjib Chakrabort.
